Dreamscape

Dreamscape is a musical description of the three stages of sleep. The suspended calm as we drift into sleep, the more active moments as we dream, and the return to calm before waking. The use of counter melodies, layered dynamics, sustained notes, and tremolo, allow students to explore the variety of ways we create mood and atmosphere through music. Nice lines for all. Violas get a chance to shine! Level 2-2.5. Set includes: score, violin 1, violin 2, viola/violin 3, cello, and bass. 11 pages total. Time: 2.30. Composed by Carole Neuen-Rabinowitz. CNR Publishing.

Prelude and Fugue

Prelude and Fugue blends the traditional Baroque style with a contemporary flair, including meter changes in the Prelude, and the more traditional walking bass and counter melodies in the Fugue. 1st violin shifts to 3rd position. All parts get interesting lines to play. Level 3 or intermediate. Set includes score and set of parts (vln1, vln2, vla, vcl, bass). Time: 3.20. Total pages 16. Composed by Carole Neuen-Rabinowitz. CNR Publishing.

Shipwreck Beach features a musical portrait of pirates and crashing waves that students will really love.  The 6/8 A section is in D major, featuring hooked bowings and good arpeggio exercises.  The B section, in 2/4 and D minor with melody initially in the low strings, has the character of a sea chantey.  It can be played all in first position and will require extensions to C sharp for upper strings and cello. Level is Medium Easy. Composed by Carole Neuen-Rabinowitz. Published by Latham Music/Ludwig Masters. This piece has appeared on the Ohio and Texas state lists.
